Introduction
Delhi Police was organized in the year of 1946 when its force was almost doubled. In the wake of partition, a big influx of refugee population roamed in and there was a sharp rise in crime in the year of 1948. It was on February 16, 1948 that the 1st IGP of Delhi was appointed and the complete force of Delhi Police was increased through 1951 to about 8,000 with 1 Inspector General of Police and 8 Superintendents of Police. A post of Deputy Inspector General of Police was made in the year of 1956.
